I am an artist, designer, and craftsman who lives in Austin, Texas. I am primarily an oil painter, but I also make prints, drawings, glasswork, and the occasional sculpture. I formerly worked as a designer at a well-known custom glass company in Austin, where I designed and fabricated etched and sand-carved glass, leaded glass, and painted glass. In November of 2013, I quit my "real" job and started my own business, Schwake Art Studio.
Originally from the small town of Sulphur, OK, I began my art education by studying graphic design for a year at OSU Tech in Okmulgee, OK. After learning that commercial design was not my interest, I studied Studio Art at Cameron University in Lawton, OK for two years. Dissatisfied with the culture of Oklahoma, I moved to Austin, TX, in 1993, where I graduated with a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin in 1999.
My influences include, but are not limited to:
80's skateboard graphics, hot rods, science, especially biology, stained glass, wildlife, American roots music, mid-century Modern design, art history, and World War II fighter planes.
